Last year, the Oneworld member Finnair regularly operated flights between Helsinki and Munich using an Airbus A350. This was a significant advantage for passengers, as the onboard experience in both travel classes is much more comfortable compared to the Airbus A320s typically used on this route.
For 2025, Finnair also expects strong demand for both passenger and cargo space on this route. As a result, an A350-900 will once again fly regularly to Bavaria from the end of March through October.
Info
As always with such news, the deployment of a wide-body aircraft is only confirmed at the gate. The aircraft type can be changed at any time without any compensation claims.
Flight Schedule
Currently, flights with the Airbus A350 are scheduled from March 30, 2025, to October 24, 2025. The wide-body aircraft typically operates on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with a few exceptions.
Look out for the following flight numbers:
- AY 1401 Helsinki
HEL
– MunichMUC
: 08:00 – 09:35 - AY 1402 Munich
MUC
– HelsinkiHEL
: 11:30 – 14:45
The block time is about two and a half hours each way for the approximately 1,600 km flight distance.
Onboard Experience: Lie-Flat Seats & Premium Economy
According to the booking system, the Airbus A350s with smaller business cabins will be used. These feature:
- 30 seats in business class
- 25 seats in premium economy
- 265 seats in economy class
Finnair’s long-haul fleet has now been fully equipped with new business seats without adjustable backrests. Instead, the seats are very spacious. Here’s our review of a similar seat on the A330 (slightly narrower):
Finnair does not sell premium economy tickets within Europe. However, these seats can be selected with an economy ticket for an additional fee. As a Finnair Gold member, I can select Economy Comfort seats (extra legroom in rows 31–34) for free, but premium economy seats come with a hefty €65 surcharge per direction.
Ticket Prices: Reasonable Deals Available
Currently, Finnair is offering a sale with affordable economy-class tickets to Helsinki. Prices are as follows:
From mid-June, roundtrip prices increase to €169. Note that these prices typically include only a personal item, not full carry-on luggage, except for Oneworld status holders.
Business class tickets cost nearly €600 roundtrip. A more appealing option, when available, is an upgrade using an upgrade voucher or miles. According to the upgrade chart, upgrading from economy class costs 10,000 Avios per direction.
