Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport saw its busiest year of all time in 2024 by handling 8.364.358 passengers. The figure represents an increase of 5.3% on the previous year or an additional 417.644 travellers. It also marked the first time the airport handled over eight million passengers in a single year. The number of commercial aircraft movements stood at 86.121, up 3.4%. The previous year saw the arrival of China Southern Airlines, Sky Express and Sun d’Or at Belgrade Airport, as well as the launch of two long-haul routes.
Despite Wizz Air continuing to maintain a reduced schedule out of the Serbian capital this year, Belgrade Airport is expected to see modest capacity growth over the coming summer, ranging from between three and six percent per month, based on existing flights filed. Following a dip in passenger numbers in November and December 2024, which is due to continue into January, the airport is expected to return to growth from February, based on existing capacity levels. The decline has been caused by Wizz Air, which, in the last quarter of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025, wiped out a combined total of 173.741 seats from the airport on the corresponding period in the previous year. The impact of the budget carrier’s capacity decline and its reduction in flights is further exasperated by its generally high load factors on almost all routes.
