Saudia passengers on a flight SV216 from Amsterdam’s Schiphol to Jeddah were in for a surprise on Thursday when the flight was delayed due to non-payment of court judgments.
Passengers flying from EU/EEA or community carriers are eligible for compensation when flights are delayed and/or canceled per EU legislation EC 261/2004, and there are companies that handle these claims on passengers’ behalf.
A claims company, EUclaim, to whose clients Saudia owned more than 50,000 euros for delayed flights in 2022, seized the fuel and navigational maps, according to Dutch media, that delayed the flight by more than an hour until the court-mandated payments had been made.
Saudia flight SV216 was scheduled to leave at 320PM and left at 440PM. The flight arrived with less than an hour delay to Jeddah at 1159PM instead of the scheduled arrival time of 1105PM.
There can be passengers on this Saudia flight who missed their onward connections and are now eligible for the EC 261/2004 delay compensation
Conclusion
Businesses should pay court-mandated judgments, or you can go and seize their assets, and what the claims company here did was right.
Saudia should ensure that they make these payments and adhere to the EU/EEA legislation if they wish to fly from the airports in the area.
